I think the protagonist is just a selfish, somewhat despicable person. Can’t he care about the feelings of his female subjects? Even a dog would have feelings, wouldn’t it? Furthermore, if Yard were in another manga, or if he weren’t the protagonist of this one, the role of the villain conducting human experiments and illegal research would have suited him. He was lucky here to become the villainous protagonist, but that doesn’t really matter. What matters is that we enjoy seeing what he does because he’s the protagonist here. If he were the villain in another manga, we would hate him.
